Lesson 1: AVIATION v. AEROSPACE: What IS the Difference?

Grades: 6-12

Topic:  Aviation and Aerospace

Focus Area: STEM Career Pathways

Lesson Description: Students will explore Aviation and Aerospace to learn about the fundamental concepts surrounding both areas of focus. Students will learn about how an aircraft flies, explore the earth’s atmosphere, experiment with atmospheric pressure, and discuss possible career pathways related to both fields.

Lesson 2: Drones v. Aircraft: How Do They Fly?

Grades: 6-12

Topic:  Aerospace and Flight

Focus Area: STEM Career Pathways

Lesson Description: Drones are quickly becoming the accessible option for students’ vehicle of flight while on the ground.  The science that involves flying a drone is derived from the way an aircraft operates and flies.  Dive into aerodynamics, physics, engineering, and technology in this lesson to discover the similarities and differences between the flight of a drone v. the flight of a manned aircraft.

Lesson 3: Introduction to Rocketry and Flight

Grades: 6-12

Topic:  Rocketry and Flight

Focus Area: Aerospace STEM Career Pathways

Lesson Description: Students will explore Aerospace through rocketry and flight; learning how rocketry is possible through the principals of propulsion and aerodynamics. Students will be able to identify the principles of propulsion and the principals of aerodynamics and will be able to describe how these scientific principals allow rockets to take flight and stay airborne.
